NIKO KRIVANEK, SEVIER COUNTY, 2023

“Krivanek’s work explores the relationship he has with his incarcerated mother.

Sevier county is a photographic retracing of the family vacation taken by Krivanek’s mother at 10 years old. The images in the project seek freedom as Krivanek tries to reconnect with a version of his mother that exists prior to her incarceration. The politically conservative rural landscape of central Utah serves as the contradictory setting for images intended to represent a utopian space existing without incarceration, where a mother and son can reunite.” - Niko Krivanek
